Tame your tongue

Colossians 4:6

"Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."

How do we speak? Do we speak out of anger or frustration? Is our tongue a curse or a blessing? Does our tongue build or crush?

Children of God, we must learn how to communicate. Don't be quick to speak. Don't let your mouth run faster than your thoughts. We should make sure we think before we speak. Often times, we rush too quick to speak.

Matthew 15:11

" It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth."

Many of us, can't control our tongues or tame it because of our prideful personality. Our tongue was given to us for the edification of God's glory. We should learn to speak with grace. Nevertheless, our tongue can be triggered by certain attributes we possess; pride, anger, self-centeredness, frustration, envy, jealousy etc. Our tongue needs to be used to edify others not to destroy them.

We should learn to speak in wisdom. Be mindful of other's feelings. It is important for us to be more cautious when speaking over some certain situations especially when it comes to your lives dreams, visions and destines. Always make sure what comes out of your mouth is blessings and not curses.

Our tongue possesses so much power and authority and should be used wisely. Remember, the way you speak to others will come back to you the same way. Henceforth, let your words be an encouragement to others. Do not let the enemy manipulate your tongue. I pray your tongue will come under the complete control of the Holy Spirit. Remember, whatever your tongue sows so you shall reap its fruits. Say what you will like others to say to you.

Titus 3:1-2

" Remind the people to be subject to rulers and athorities, to be obedient , to be ready to whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone."

I pray our God will sanctify our tongue and grace it with his wisdom in Jesus name. Amen

Are you a good listener?

     John 8:47

"Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do  not hear is that you do not belong to God."

Do you listen with the intent to understand or reply? Are you a good listener or a poor listener? A lot of us out here tend to speak more than we listen. But expect everyone to pay attention to us when we speak.

Often times, we miss a lot when we do not listen. Especially, if the statements or discussions does not favor our interests. We tend to be agitated which causes us to speak out of topic, depending on the situation at hand, instead of leaving the other person to complete their statement. We often rush to speak and the message is misconstrued. For example; A poor listener will act a certain way, if he/she does not agree with what the other party is saying and sees the others' discussions are irrelevant. We have got to stop this attitude of hearing ourselves speak and start  paying attention to another.

  Proverbs 25:12

"As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear"

Do you think what the next person is saying irrelevant? Why do you think yours will be relevant? Sometimes we are so self-centered or self-acclaimed, we think our words are more valuable than the other.

That's why a lot of us do not listen when God speaks because we talk more and listen less. When you talk more, you miss the most important detail when spoken too. Our God loves a good listener because he can easily converse with them. Stop thinking about yourself for a minute and you will notice you can learn something.

A good listener learns and gains wisdom. A poor listener is selective which often leads to misunerstandings, quarelling etc. Whereas a good listener possesses the skills of patience, humility, wisdom etc

Proverbs 19:20

"Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise"

As children of God, we should learn more and speak less. The futher you listen; the more knowledge and wisdom is acquired.  A good listener has the spirit of obedience and humility. Listen to learn not to criticize. Not every word spoken is irrelevant or negative. Develop an attitude of listening. It plays an immense role in our daily lives.

I pray God open our ears to listen more and speak less.

Are you blaming others for your failures?

Often times, as children of God we do not take responsibilities for our own actions. We love dwelling in the past. We believe if that person, aunt, uncle, friend did not treat us like this, we would have been a better person. But the question here is, how are you sure? Did God allow it to happen or we are the cause of it?

We have to understand sometimes God allows certain things to happen, so that it can humble and teach us. Remember he knew us before we were formed in our mother's womb.

Jeremiah 1:5

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to all nations."

I understand some people have been maltreated, insulted, assaulted, rejected, used etc. But you have to understand as child of God, you can't let your past continue to hunt you in the present and future. Don't give power to the enemy, reject his schemes.

There are times we also have to take accountability of our actions. As children of God, we are fond of making so many excuses of what could have or what should be? Just because you were hunted in the past doesn't  mean you need to stop your life from moving. The Lord said when you are a born again old things have passed away and new things are here.

2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Often times, we have this mentality of blaming others for our failures. For example, an individaul will say "my father was a smoker that's why l smoke." Following this example you will realize the child is just following the footsteps of his dad. However, as children of God, we need to live a life that edifies God, not the life of our parents, families etc. Be discipline and exceptional. Do not let the foundation of your families stop you from moving foward, break that stronghold and loose your-self from it. Don't re-live your family history. Be an exception and change the history of your family.  For you are a new creation in Christ. Amen

Sometimes, we need to take accountability for our actions. Yes, it is agreed that we might have some instigators, but that doesn't imply we need to give in. But to stand up and say, " I am stronger than my problems and failures. For the Lord overcame all of them by his blood."

     1 John 5:4

"For whatsover is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that  overcometh the world, even our faith."

Don't be a complainer, instead change your perspective. Your past is not present and future. You are the product of your past, but not end product of your present or your future. Don't let your past hinder you from moving foward. Be an overcomer and conqueror. For the Lord said "I did not say you won't have trouble but take heart for I overcame it." John 16:33

Challenges

1 Peter 5:10

"And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."

Every so often, we ask ourselves why we are faced with challenges in our various endeavors such as: education, career, job search , finances, marriage, raising children, etc. The reasons why we are faced  with diificulties in different areas of our lives is because there is something we need to learn or change. It could simply be  because  the road we are on isn't the road or journey we were supposed to be on. Sometimes, it could be that we are in a wrong relationship. Remember, our God has already pre-determined us for greatness and He knows who we are, and what we are theoretically expected to be doing or be with.

However, there are challenges we face in different areas of our lives due to our divine calling and greatness destined by God. But, the enemy does not want us to attain that destiny, as planned by God.

Moreover, challenges can be so overwhelming where most of us cannot handle the stress that comes with it. Repeatedly we should remember that if we are not faced with challenges, then how can we appreciate what we have suffered and waited for.

Psalm 30:5

"For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning."

Despite the fact, we are all faced with challenges regularly. It's important that we understand as children of God that nothing comes easy. However, when we feel that the challenges we face daily are becoming unrealistic, then we need to go to God and ask him "Lord was I  supposed to be doing this or was I supposed to be here? Etc.

  1 Corinthians 10:13

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

Major reasons we are faced with challenges continually is because God was not in our decision making in the first place. Even though, we all are aware that challenges are part of our destiny. It does not mean most of the challenges we face are part of it. We are often the constituents of our own challenges.

Never rely on your own understanding but God's. Challenges are meant to elevate, teach, restore, heal, humble, tame us etc. It's not meant to be destructive. Be careful children of God, of the decisions you make without consulting God first. It can put you in a dilemma whereby you can't even pull yourself out of the situation. Is only by calling on God that his mercy and grace can save you.

Psalm 119:66

"Teach me good judgement and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments."

I pray God will reveal, why you are faced with unrealistic challenges in different areas of your life. I pray He will open your eyes to see your problems in Jesus Name. Amen
